The Forest Enterprise Cluster Project, supported by USAID, is coordinated by the US Forest Service and implemented by IEB in partnership with the Amazon Institute of People and the Environment (Imazon), the Tropical Forest Institute (IFT) and the Ecological Research Institute (IPÊ). The objective of this project is to support the consolidation of community and individual management plans in the Brazilian Amazon. The approval and implementation of management plans, as well as the processing and marketing of forest products require knowledge of complex processes. The project therefore includes training events focused on forest management for community leaders and its integration with other local land use practices. The project also aims to create forums for the collective discussion of forest policies.
These actions will take place in Pará, where IEB, Imazon and IFT have accumulated experience on forest management and where the challenges are greater due to the large areas dedicated to production forests. With this initiative, it is hoped that forest management becomes consolidated as an efficient alternative for income generation, while at the same time contributing to better management of local natural resources, increasing the area and the number of people involved in this activity.
Starting in 2000, the institute began organizing and publishing titles of socio-environmental relevance that would probably otherwise not be published and distributed.
