The purpose of this project is to contribute to the conservation of locally-valued Amazonian biological diversity and the improvement of the standard of living and welfare of forest-dependent people, The project aims to generate key information and build local capacity to bridge the information divide between the social and environmental sectors, focusing on the following thematic areas: forest ownership, sustainable forest management and value of forests in developing countries These three themes are fundamental in resolving the deep inequalities facing communities that depend on the forest. The wide dissemination of the project results should promote policy reforms, transparency in marketing activities, lines of credit for forest communities and reduction of regulatory burdens on rural families ,so benefitting the approximately six million people living in the region. The field activities for this project are carried out in the dynamic frontier regions of Gurupá, Porto de Moz and Marabá, in the State of Pará.
