The International Institute of Education in Brazil (IEB) is a non-profit organization. It was created in 1998 and provides training and capacity building for people involved in environmental conservation, especially in in the Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado regions.
IEB stands out among Brazil NGOs for its experience in promoting processes of articulation between organizations that deal with environmental issues and those sectors with difficulties of approximation and dialogue, such as private companies, government, NGOs and social movements.
Provide training, foster education, generate and disseminate knowledge and bring together social actors towards the construction of a sustainable society.
In order to fulfill its mission, the Institute has structured its activities in five thematic areas:
In 2008, IEB strengthened its field work, especially in the Southeastern portion of the state of Amazonas. The activities in the region demanded the establishment, in a partnership with the Conselho Nacional dos Seringueiros (CNS), IEB local offices in the municipalities of Manicoré and Lábrea. In 2009 the Institute established Humaita’s local office.
In 2005 IEB established a regional office in Belém, as the majority of its work was focused on the Amazon. The objective of this office is to maintain a physical presence in the region and to strengthen dialogue with local partners. IEB organizes workshops on Community Forest Management in the region, as well as strategic studies and capacity building events in the field. Such activities require regular contact with local communities and organizations.
Starting in 2000, the institute began organizing and publishing titles of socio-environmental relevance that would probably otherwise not be published and distributed.
