Coordinating the ALFA Consortium is a huge management and institutional development challenge, both for IEB and its partner organizations. Respect for the characteristics of each organization prevails in the day-to-day relations between the IEB and its fellow members. Complying with the demands of the donor, undergoing audits and pursuing synergy between the partners involves a juggling act that provides new lessons every day. The results of this governance are the technical reports drawn up by interdisciplinary teams and increased interaction between ALFA’s member institutions, buttressed by an intranet and a monthly electronic information bulletin. Part of the learning acquired through the ALFA Consortium was applied in the financial management of FORTIS. The SIS-FORTIS on-line system enables the IEB to obtain real-time information on the financial transactions of the Consortium’s members.
